07-05-24 fishing report

It’s been another great week with some wind,  rain early on and some hot days. The surf, bridge or pier have all been producing a good variety of catches  – as always let’s start in the north and move south.

North surf Oregon inlet to Corolla. (73-76) Sea mullet, spot, bluefish, small flounder, couple small pompano and puppy drum,

North piers – (68-76) sea mullet, spot, croaker, pigfish, small sand perch, sheepshead, flounder, small pompano, Spanish and blues. Also few rays have been caught.

Sound bridges (Daniels, Wildlife pier and Bebop) (77) croakers, speckled trout, good numbers of small sheepshead but also some 2-3 lbs fish and heard just one puppy drum. Small trout on Wildlife pier.  As usual, lots of small bottom fish and crabs. And as usual on these bridges, if using fresh bait bring plenty – crabs are plentiful.

HATTERAS ISLAND

South surf to Hatteras Village  (80) sea mullet, croakers, pompano, flounder, puppy drum. Some Spanish when they school and come close. Some sharks and rays. Heard that there may have been another tarpon caught and released. Best baits sea mullet and other bottom fish – shrimp, sand fleas or fish bites.  For blues and Spanish – gotcha plugs, glass minnows or sting silvers.

If using an ORV, check with the park service of what’s open. Some areas closed with access 0700 to 2100 hrs. Nesting season!!

South piers – (76-80)  A good week with Sea mullet, croakers, small pompano, bluefish, Spanish Mackerel and puppy drum.

Ocracoke Island –  (78-80) sea mullet, small pompano, some blues and a coulee of puppy drum.

Bonner bridge –  (75) lots of sheepshead some both under and slot size, several blues, a couple puppy drum and large needle fish. Rays are around too. Best bite is moving water. Watch for the tides. Bugs are still a major issue especially after dark.
