07-19-24 –  Fishing Report

It’s been a mixed week with real hot temperatures, very windy days and periods of rain – some heavy at times with lightning. Fair numbers of fish have been caught along the entire beach but a lot slower than last week.  As always, let’s start in the north and move south.

NORTH OF OREGON INLET

North surf Oregon inlet to Corolla. (72) sea mullet, spot, and croaker, couple puppy drum and small blues – and those fish scattered.

North piers – (67-74) sea mullet, spot, croaker, pinfish, pigfish, nice sheepshead, (9.18 lbs and 24” long), triggerfish, plenty of puppy drum around but didn’t hear many caught, some blues, and some Spanish

Sound bridges (Daniels, Wildlife pier and Bebop) (77) little slow on all sound bridges with some trout and some sheepshead. Still have lots of small bottom fish and plenty of crabs.

HATTERAS ISLAND

South surf to Hatteras Village  (82)  sea mullet, croakers, pompano, sheepshead, some Spanish, blues around and puppy drum. And small sharks.

As a reminder it’s Nesting season – CHNS has some access areas limited and some are closed. Check their website daily.

South piers – (76-80)  sea mullet, spot, croaker, and pompano. Several blues and Spanish when wind is right.

Ocracoke Island –  (79-82) slow with some sea mullet, pompano, huge 30” – 6lbs 6oz trout (not sure surf or sound but a beauty), and puppy drum.

Bonner bridge –  (78) catches have slowed down a bit with one nice pompano, lots of Black Sea bass and a couple big sheepshead this week. Key to fishing here is moving water. Fish close to bridge bases.  Bugs are still a major issue especially after dark.
