Fishing Report this week
It’s been mixed between wind, heavy rain and some hot days. It’s been an average week with fish caught along the entire beach. As always, let’s start in the north and move south.
North surf Oregon inlet to Corolla. (71) scattered catches of sea mullet, spot, loads of croaker, even some gray trout, small blues, puppy drum and small sharks.
North piers – (mid 70’s) sea mullet, spot, croaker, sheepshead, trigger fish, small flounder, blues and Spanish. 45# King on Jennette’s pier.
Sound bridges (Daniels, Wildlife pier and Bebop) – (76) a little slow again this week with black drum, small sheepshead, bottom fish, nice trout and puppy drum. Lots of crabs.
HATTERAS ISLAND
South surf to Hatteras Village – (82) sea mullet, spot, still lots of croaker, pompano, gray trout, blues, Spanish, some Rays and good numbers of black tip and spinner Sharks especially at the point.
As a reminder it’s Nesting season – CHNS has some access areas limited and some are closed. Check their website daily.
South piers – (78) sea mullet, spot, lots of croaker, couple of pompano, gray trout and puppy drum.
Ocracoke Island – (81) slow with some sea mullet, huge citation pompano, huge 30” – 6lbs 6oz trout (caught in the sound) and puppy drum.
Bonner bridge – (76) – little bit of everything this week with sea mullet, croaker, black drum, sheepshead, bluefish and rays. Plenty of crabs. Key to fishing here is moving water. Fish close to bridge bases. Bugs are still a major issue especially after dark.
