08-02-24 –  Fishing Report

It seemed to have slowed down a little with real hot air temperatures and some wind and rain. West wind has cooled the ocean temps a little. Typical mid-summer fishing with the fish scattered along the entire beach. But a little better than last week.  As always, let’s start in the north and move south.

NORTH OF OREGON INLET

North surf Oregon inlet to Corolla. (70) some sea mullet, spot, croakers, pompano and blues.

North piers – (65-71) sea mullet, spot, croaker, pinfish, pigfish, Black Sea bass, sheepshead, triggerfish, pompano, couple trout, blues and some Spanish were caught.

Sound bridges (Daniels, Wildlife pier and Bebop) (78) still slow this week with trout, sheepshead and bottom fish and crabs.

HATTERAS ISLAND

South surf to Hatteras Village  (82)  sea mullet, spot, good numbers of croaker, pompano, couple trout and blues. Anglers on the point caught blues, Spanish, rays and sharks.

As a reminder it’s turtle and bird nesting season – CHNS has some access areas limited and some are closed. Check their website daily.

South piers – (76-80)  sea mullet, spot, good runs of croaker, pompano blues and Spanish.

Ocracoke Island –  (79-82) sea mullet, pompano, puppy drum and blues.

A Soundside boat angler caught a 46” 37 lb cobia with a 23” girth.

Bonner bridge –  (78) slow with some sheepshead and tautog.

The key to catching here is patience. Moving water mid tides. Fish the back sides of the bridge base.  Bugs are still a major issue most times but especially after dark.
