08-16-24 –  Fishing Report

Fishing was about average this week. Great bites on northern piers. Rain and wind did affect fishing in several areas.  Fish are still scattered on both the surf, piers and bridges. As always, let’s start in the north and move south.

NORTH OF OREGON INLET

North surf Oregon inlet to Corolla. (70) sea mullet, spot, croaker, pompano, small blues and puppy drum ( in the Duck area)

North piers – (62-76) sea mullet, spot, black drum, sand perch, Black Sea bass, triggerfish, spadefish, sheepshead, pigfish, pinfish, flounder, blues, Spanish, and a Cobia.

Sound bridges (Daniels, Wildlife pier and Bebop) (76) trout, sheepshead, puppy drum and plenty of bottom fish. Lots of crabs

HATTERAS ISLAND

South surf to Hatteras Village  (78)  

Sea mullet, croaker, nice pompano, couple trout, couple of nice drum, blues, good runs of spanish, sharks and rays. 

As a reminder it’s turtle and bird nesting season – CHNS has some access areas limited and some are closed. Check their website daily.

South piers – (76)  lots of sea mullet, spot, croaker, pompano, blues and good runs of Spanish.

Ocracoke Island –  (82) Sea mullet, pompano, and blues. Big drum and Cobia in the sound behind the island. 

Bonner bridge –  (70) limited anglers do not much other than some sheepshead.
