08-23-24 –  Fishing Report

Fishing improved significantly this week. Great bites on both northern and southern surf and piers. Some big swells early in the week did not affect fishing very much. As always, let’s start in the north and move south.

NORTH OF OREGON INLET

North surf Oregon inlet to Corolla. (70) sea mullet, spot, croaker, pompano, puppy drum, blues and Spanish. And several small sharks after dark. 

North piers – (70-72) sea mullet, spot, samd perch, black drum, triggerfish, small flounder, blues, Spanish, small albacore, ribbon fish and small Cobia 

Sound bridges (Daniels, Wildlife pier and Bebop) (75) spot, big croakers, black drum, trout, puppy drum, small sheepshead, ribbon fish, and bottom fish.

HATTERAS ISLAND

South surf to Hatteras Village  (78)  

Sea mullet, lots of spots, pompano, scattered croaker, flounder, yearling and slot puppy drum, blues, Spanish, rays and several sharks

As a reminder it’s turtle and bird nesting season – CHNS has some access areas limited and some are closed. Check their website daily.

South piers – (75)  sea mullet, croakers, bottom fish, puppy drum, blues, nice spanish and a bunch of albacore. And a 45.5” king mackerel on Avon

Ocracoke Island –  (80) sea mullet, small pompano and blues. One Big 6.4 lbs pompano on caught on sound side

Bonner bridge –  (70) black drum, sheepshead, ribbon fish, blues and puppy drum.
